FOCAS: FP7-ICT-2011.9.12 Goals: The FOCAS project is a coordination action which aims to integrate, coordinate and help increase visibility to research carried out in the FOCAS FET Proactive Initiative and in research fields related to collective adaptive systems. FOCAS will also provide a positive interface between scientists and the science-aware public, showing how research into collective adaptive systems can impact on society. Status: started 1st March 2013
We support: FuturICT: FP7 ICT, FET Flagship Initiative: FuturICT Knowledge Accelerator Goals: The FuturICT flagship proposal intends to unify hundreds of the best scientists in Europe in a 10 year 1 billion EUR program to explore social life on earth and everything it relates to. The FuturICT flagship proposal will produce historic breakthroughs and provide powerful new ways to manage challenges that make the modern world so difficult to predict, including the financial crisis. SAPERE: FP7 ICT Call-5, FET proactive, Goal 8.5: Self-Awareness in Autonomic Systems Goals: The objective of SAPERE is the development of a highly-innovative theoretical and practical framework for the decentralized deployment and execution of self-aware and adaptive services for future and emerging pervasive network scenarios. The framework will be grounded on a foundational re-thinking of current service models and of associated infrastructures and algorithms.

SOCIONICAL: FP7 ICT Call-3, FET proactive / Goal 8.4: Science of complex systems for socially intelligent ICT Goals: There are a number of projects that acknowledge the tight entanglement between social and technical systems. SOCIONICAL differs from these project in that it jointly deals with complex systems at three levels: (i) Interacting social entities; (ii) Interacting technical entities; (iii) Interacting socio-technical entities.
OPPORTUNITY: FP7-ICT-2007-C, FET open Goals: The project aims at developing mobile systems to recognize human activity with dynamically varying sensor setups. We refer to such systems as opportunistic, since they take advantage of sensing modalities that just happen to be available, rather than forcing to deploy specific, application dependent sensor systems. PANORAMA: FP7 ICT Call-2, FET proactive / Goal 8.3: Pervasive Adaptation Goals: The goal of PANORAMA is to bring together the wide range of researchers in the Pervasive Adaptation field to build a new community of researchers in the Pervasive Adaptation field who can work together on common goals, so ensuring that the research carried out by members of that community is integrated, coordinated and informed.

Eye-Controlled Machines: EyeControl aims to create a whole new way of human-machine interaction in complex manufacturing settings, by introducing eye-gaze as a modality of implicit and explicit interaction with industrial machines and processes performed by them.
MinIAttention: Attention Management in Minimal Invasive Surgery: This project will create the foundational, design and operational principles of future, surgeon-friendly minimal invasive surgery operating room information technologies (MIS-IT), which –given the ever growing complexity in surgical workflows, as well as instrument and equipment settings– will have to build on human attention as a scarce resource.

360Light Experiencing panoramic content in public spaces: Goals: High resolution, internet enabled, interactive display systems have become broadly deployed in public places, mostly for location specific announcement and commercial advertisement purposes - often referred to as SmartLight displays. 360Light attempts at combining cutting edge research in self-aware, adaptive and intelligent display systems, with high resolution 360° video capturing and streaming, and device free interaction principles and modalities.
PowerIT: FFG Call: FIT-IT Embedded Systems & Semiconductors, 2nd Call Goals: This project will investigate on potentials to reduce energy inefficiency by the development of methods and solutions based on implicit user interaction. Methodologically, it will attempt to exploit opportunistic sensor configurations to establish context information, in order to avoid standby losses of electronic equipment, machines and appliances.

Power Saver: FFG Call: Neue Energien 2020 (klima+energie fonds) Goals: The PowerSaver research project proposes a power management solution based on sensors for activity and context recognition, in order to avoid standby losses of electronic equipment, machines and appliances. It builds on an automatic (or implicit) switching of stand-by modes of these devices, based on the recognized or anticipated situation (rather then forcing users to explicitly switch among those modes).
SPECTACLES - Autonomous Wearable Displays: SPECTACLES project aims at creating a autonomous computing platform that is integrated into the frame structure of glasses. The system includes components for communication, interaction and sensing to support different applicatoin areas.

Crowd safety in Mass Events: Goals: The objective of this project is the research and development of crowd safety solutions in the domain of (urban) mass events. It was found that many crowd disaster - such as the 2012 Duisburg Loveparade disaster - could have been avoided given better management structures and warning systems. The project aims to develop a complete solution to support event organizers and rescue forces in detecting and counteracting potential dangerous situations in the domain of (urban) mass events.
Recommender System: Goals: This industrial research project with RECTICEL Schlafkomfort GmbH -Schlaraffia addresses the problem of getting the right sleeping product according to the body shape. The aim of the project was to develop a body classifier. The approach that is used in this project is depth image sensor data as input for body classification algorithms. This contact free body measurement solution is steering the product recommendation for the customer.

Digital Aura: "Digital Aura" proposes a "spontaneous interaction" thought model, in which things start to interact once they reach physical proximity to each other
Digi Scope: With DigiScope, the user is handling a holographic display tablet just like a six degrees of freedom window that opens a view into the virtual world. The tablet is an optical see-through display which allows for a very natural viewing and scene inspection.
Context Framework for Mobile Devices: This industrial research project with Siemens AG Germany deals with the encapsulation of heterogeneous context information in a generic framework for mobile context-aware applications.
