FOCAS (Fundamentals of Collective Adaptive Systems)

FP7-ICT-2011.9.12

Goals: The FOCAS project is a coordination action which aims to integrate, coordinate and help increase visibility to research carried out in the FOCAS FET Proactive Initiative and in research fields related to collective adaptive systems. FOCAS will also provide a positive interface between scientists and the science-aware public, showing how research into collective adaptive systems can impact on society.

Status: started 1st March 2013

Funding: EU FP7 ICT-2011.9.12

Duration: 2013 - 2016

We support: FuturICT (The FuturICT Knowledge Accelerator and Crisis-Relief System: Unleashing the Power of Information for a Sustainable Future)

FP7 ICT, FET Flagship Initiative: FuturICT Knowledge Accelerator

Goals: The FuturICT flagship proposal intends to unify hundreds of the best scientists in Europe in a 10 year 1 billion EUR program to explore social life on earth and everything it relates to. The FuturICT flagship proposal will produce historic breakthroughs and provide powerful new ways to manage challenges that make the modern world so difficult to predict, including the financial crisis.

Status: proposal in preparation

Funding: EU FP7 ICT, FET Flagship Pilot

Duration: 2011 - 2012

SAPERE (Self-Aware Pervasive Service Ecosystems)

FP7 ICT Call-5, FET proactive, Goal 8.5: Self-Awareness in Autonomic Systems

Goals: The objective of SAPERE is the development of a highly-innovative theoretical and practical framework for the decentralized deployment and execution of self-aware and adaptive services for future and emerging pervasive network scenarios. The framework will be grounded on a foundational re-thinking of current service models and of associated infrastructures and algorithms. In particular, getting inspiration from natural ecosystems, the project will demonstrate and experiment the possibility of modelling and deploying services as autonomous individuals in an ecosystem of other services, data sources, and pervasive devices, and of enforcing self-awareness and autonomic behaviours as inherent properties of the ecosystem, rather than as peculiar characteristics of its individuals only.

Status: started October 1st, 2010

Funding: EU FP7 ICT Call-5, FET proactive

Duration: 2010 - 2013

HC2 (Human Computer Confluence Research in Action)

FP7 ICT Call-5, FET proactive, Goal 8.4: Human Computer Confluence

Goals: HCC, Human-Computer Confluence, is an ambitious research program studying how the emerging symbiotic relation between humans and computing devices can enable radically new forms of sensing, perception, interaction, and understanding. HCC is set to produce profound technological and social impact. It is also a deeply interdisciplinary field, spanning a wide range of areas: from the cognitive sciences to computer science, human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence; from traditional sensor and systems engineering to the development of novel means to interact with any type of information and the exploration of new synthetic senses.

Status: started October 1st, 2010

Funding: EU FP7 ICT Call-5, FET proactive

Duration: 2010 - 2013

SOCIONICAL (Complex Socio-Technical System in Ambient Intelligence)

FP7 ICT Call-3, FET proactive / Goal 8.4: Science of complex systems for socially intelligent ICT

Goals: There are a number of projects that acknowledge the tight entanglement between social and technical systems. SOCIONICAL differs from these project in that it jointly deals with complex systems at three levels: (i) Interacting social entities; (ii) Interacting technical entities; (iii) Interacting socio-technical entities.
It is embedded in AmI (Ambient Intelligence) environments, and it aims at providing a user feedback-loop to control global system behavior, and it relies on realistic multimodal data sources.

Status: started February 1st, 2009

Funding: EU FP7 ICT Call-3, FET proactive

Duration: 2009 - 2013

OPPORTUNITY (Activity and Context Recognition with Opportunistic Sensor Configurations)

FP7-ICT-2007-C, FET open

Goals: The project aims at developing mobile systems to recognize human activity with dynamically varying sensor setups. We refer to such systems as opportunistic, since they take advantage of sensing modalities that just happen to be available, rather than forcing to deploy specific, application dependent sensor systems.

Partners: ETH Zurich, UoPassau, IDIAP

Status: started February 1st, 2009

Funding: EU FP7 ICT, FET open

Duration: 2009 - 2012

PANORAMA (Pervasive Adaptation Network for the Organisation of the Research Agenda and the Management of Activities)

FP7 ICT Call-2, FET proactive / Goal 8.3: Pervasive Adaptation

Goals: The goal of PANORAMA is to bring together the wide range of researchers in the Pervasive Adaptation field to build a new community of researchers in the Pervasive Adaptation field who can work together on common goals, so ensuring that the research carried out by members of that community is integrated, coordinated and informed.
